Hey everyone,

So, it is week three of fourth year and I’m doing Journalism in University of Limerick and I have been made Sports Editor of Limerick Voice.

Over the semester I will be writing a blog every week on my experiences I have endured as Sports editor of the Voice and what I have learned and what I will bring into my future jobs hopefully.

So, in week three I felt the pressure of the being sports editor straight away as I realised that there wasn’t a lot of sports heads in our course unfortunately.

As I was preparing for the year, I knew I was going to be writing about sport in some capacity so I did have a few stories ready so I wouldn’t have gotten off to a slow start.

My goals for the semester was to try and promote sports that don’t often get much publicity in the media so my first article was on the Limerick Cricket Teams season.

I wasn’t sure how many views it would get but I was pleasantly surprised when it reached nearly 500 views that week. It was the most viewed story that week which made me happy.

What I learned from that article was to get as many people to share it as possible so as always, our social media team shared it on our platforms but also the Limerick Cricket team shared it on their platforms so it was a good lesson to get as many parties to share it which in turn will boost views.

The big thing I learned about my first week as Sports editor was that the time of day you put out the article. I found with my rugby article it still got over 200 views but that was posted in the morning while my cricket article was put out in the evening when everyone was at home finished work looking at the site.

It was a great first week and I am so excited to strive to do my best as sports editor for Limerick Voice.

Come back next week to see what I am doing for week two and to see what I have learned from Limerick Voice
